The International Dimension
Going
abroad to experience foreign cultures is quite common today. Students want
to learn about other cultures and discover cultural differences. They are
eager to get in contact with foreign people either by visiting their
countries or by communicating on the Internet.
To
understand a foreign culture and successfully interact with people from
other countries, it is important that students build up intercultural
competence – as Jawaharlal Nehru said, “Culture
is a widening of the mind and of the spirit”.
Therefore
the international activities are given high priority at Hobro Gymnasium
& HF-kursus.

Introduction
to Hobro Gymnasium & hf-kursus
Hobro
Gymnasium & HF-Kursus is a progressive 6th form college with 70
teachers and approximately 500 students. In a stimulating environment and
a relaxing atmosphere, our school prepares the students for university and
similar institutions of higher education with due regard to each
student’s individual talents.
Hobro
Gymnasium & HF-Kursus provides two varieties of upper secondary
education.
·
three-year courses leading to the Upper Secondary School Leaving
Examination
(Studentereksamen)
·
and two-year courses leading to the Higher Preparatory Examination
(Højere Forberedelses- eksamen, HF)
The
courses emphasize a broad theoretical education of high academic standard
and offer a wide variety of subjects: Danish, English, German, French,
Spanish, Russian, Latin, Ancient and Modern History, Religious Studies,
Philosophy, Psychology, Economics, Social Studies, Geography, Biology,
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computing, Music, Art, Design and
Physical Education. And in addition, the extracurricular activities:
Music, Art and Sports.
Throughout
the school year there are a wide range of activities for both students and
teachers such as pedagogical seminars, the students’ drama production,
the annual school dance, the graduation party, and of course the extensive
unofficial social activities organised by the students themselves. The
teachers are encouraged to constantly improve their pedagogical and
professional skills by attending a large variety of in-service training
programmes. About once a month all the teachers participate in a staff
meeting to discuss the practical, administrative and pedagogical matters
of the school. The democratic rights of the students are guaranteed by the
students’ council.
It
is of great importance to Hobro Gymnasium & HF-Kursus that we achieve
our ultimate educational goal: that our students acquire substantial
academic training and develop human abilities which enable them to become
full-scale members of our democratic society.
International
School Projects
There
is a wide range of international activities at Hobro Gymnasium &
HF-Kursus. The school has a large number of contacts in Europe, Africa and
the USA, which have increased rapidly since 1991. The school participates
in various - often EU-funded projects (Health
Matters, Building
Bridges) with other schools in Europe and recently, in co-operation
with Danida, a new school project has been initiated with an African high
school.
International
Classes
The
International Classes in which the international dimension is
given top priority are very popular. The students do not only study
foreign cultures in class, but they also gain international experience and
competence when participating in school projects and exchanges with
students in Europe and the USA.
The
town of Hobro
Hobro
is a small and active town of approximately 10,000 inhabitants in the
county of North Jutland. It is situated in the beautiful countryside
surrounding Mariager Fjord.
The
town is historically linked to the Viking Age. Situated only a few
kilometres from the town centre are the remnants of Fyrkat
- the impressive Viking fortress built around 980 and a live Viking
farm stead where you can experience the way of life of the Vikings.
Hobro
is the ideal starting point for excursions in the county of North Jutland.
Furthermore, the cities of Ålborg
and Århus - the second
largest city in Denmark, are only an hour’s drive from Hobro, and
further north - the idyllic and mundane seaside resort of Skagen
at Denmark’s top where two seas meet.
